How much does an electric fireplace cost to run?
An electric fireplace is two appliances in one: LED flame effects that draw very little, and a space-heater element that dominates cost whenever heating mode is on.

Two modes with very different costs
Flame-only mode powers LEDs and a small motor, comparable to a light bulb. Switching on the heater engages a resistance element usually rated 750 to 1,500 watts, multiplying the draw by fifty times or more. Which mode dominates your habits decides the bill.
It heats like a space heater, not a hearth
Marketing often quotes room coverage in square feet, but thermally an electric fireplace is a standard resistance heater in decorative housing. Expect the same per-hour heating cost as any plug-in heater of equal wattage, with the same thermostat-cycling behavior.
What the fireplace scenarios assume
The flame-only scenario uses a nominal LED-and-motor draw; actual effect wattage varies by model and brightness. Heating scenarios assume the built-in thermostat cycles the element. Infrared quartz models rate similarly in watts even though the heat feels more directional.
